FAQ

What is the difference between Plastic, Lexan, Plexiglass, Polycarbonate, Pvc, Cast Acrylic, Extruded Acrylic and Acrylic +Plus UV Protection?

  1. Acrylic +Plus is a premium cast acrylic with UV protection added to the material when processed. It has better thermal stability, higher resistance to crazing (when a network of very small cracks form) when exposed to solvents, wider thermoforming range than extruded acrylic.
  2. Cast Acrylic and Plexiglass® are the same thing. There are many brands of standard acrylic on the market. Depending on the composition and UV additives could last between 15 and 30 years before the UV breaks them down.
  3. Extruded Acrylic is less stable than Cast acrylic and less expensive per sheet. The material has a outdoor lifespan of 10-20 years.
  4. Polycarbonate is the same as Lexan® and is softer than acrylic. The material is very tough and impact resistant. The drawback is that it scratches more easily and not stable for outdoor long term use. This product has a 5-15 outdoor lifespan.
  5. Pvc is an indoor material and not designed for long term outdoor use. The UV will deteriorate the plastic and it will crack and or become very brittle. The outdoor lifespan for PVC is 5-10 years.

General Questions

Vinyl Housename

  1. What vinyl material do you use? We use high performance 2mil Supercast vinyl from Avery Dennison and 3M. We also use 3M1080 and Avery Supreme Wrap for complex installations. These are the best materials you will find on the market.
  2. How long do they last? They last from 10-15 years depending on the home surface and the amount of direct sunlight.
  3. How much do they cost? The cost ranges from $199 to $300 installed depending on size, surface and installation time.
  4. Can you ship them to me and I can install myself? Yes, with the right tools and patience you can install yourself. See our DIY link in the footer of the page. You can find the product on the shop page.
  5. What tools do I need to install myself? You will need a ladder, masking tape, tape measure, application squeege, heat gun, soapy water and paper towels.
  6. Does Vinyl material stick to brick, stucco or rough wood? No, the surface must be smooth and well painted. Coarse rough cut painted wood may not work. Test the surface by cleaning with a moist paper towel, if the towel tears up and the paper bits stick to the wood fibers its too rough to install vinyl lettering, and you must get 3D Acrylic or Aluminium letters.
  7. Can you install in the winter? No, 10 degrees Celsius is the min temperature.
  8. Do you offer a guarantee? Yes, we offer a one year guarantee for any product defects or peeling. If the vinyl sticks well it will continue to stick for years.
